A store that sells everything I love!

Thanks to MySweetCreations...I found my new favorite store! It's called the Calico Bean Market. It's in the Cable Car Square located in dowtown Dubuque, IA. They sell bulk spices, grains, flours and SPRINKLES!!! The prices are fantastic- and the selection is unreal! I'm so excited to have been introduced to such a unique and wonderful shop.

Lucky for me, we had a trip planned to Galena this week...so I didn't have to wait long to check out this new find! I'll be making frequent stops there on my future trips to Galena.

I bought several kinds of Sprinkles...these are mini Christmas lights. They are going to be perfect for decorating treats for Christmas Tree Season. And a steal- only $1.80!

My second tub of Sprinkles- Fall leaves. I'm going to have fun with these celebrating my favorite season! Also $1.80.

My third tub of Sprinkles- Large Red Hearts! I can't wait to find a fun use for these around Valentine's Day! ($1.80)

I also bought a few things I have never used before. Curry Powder! Look for some fun new recipes with this. The tub was only $.80...compared to $2 at Hy-Vee for 1/4 of the amount!

Jalapeno Powder...can't wait to add some of this to my Chili this winter!! I've never seen it around here, so $2.15 seemed like a deal!

And I bought 2 tubs of Peppercorns...only $1.00 each. They will come in handy with my new found love for Parmesan Peppercorn Bread!

Another new item for me...Fresh Nutmeg. I haven't seen it in any stores around here, and I've recently decided I really like the flavor. Can't wait to re-make Donut Muffins using fresh instead of powdered! $1.31 for 6 whole nutmeg.

With Fall approaching- the number of soups and stews, stocks, and pots of chili I make will be increasing. I bought a giant tub of Bay Leaves for only $.67. That is a CRAZY deal!

And just for fun...Alphabet Pretzels for Robyn :) Only $1.35 for a 1lb bag. I think these would be so cute to use on a cake or cupcake too!

I recently gave Robyn a mini box of Lucky Charms. The whole box only had 5 marshmallows!! I bought a whole bag to make our own, only $1.40. We'll be mixing these with Multi Grain Cheerios :)

And last but not least, Alphabet Pasta. I can't wait to make my own Alphabet Soup this winter...and I hope it will entice Robyn to try some new foods! $2.38 for a 1 lb bag. I've never seen it anywhere around here, and I'm sure we will go through it quickly!

We had a wonderful trip to Galena with our visiting family! Now that we are home- it's time to get cooking!

  1. I am so glad you checked out the store. You really have to experience it for yourself, don't you agree? Luckily they have a website and a new and improved website will be up in the near future. You can make these purchases through theur website.
