I love applesauce when it's still warm.

We started "Fall" in a great way...with a trip to the Apple Orchard! Robyn had a great time picking apples, and I am having fun cooking with them. First on my list of things to make...applesauce, of course! I used my crock-pot. This could not be easier!

Peel and core 8 large apples. I used Lura Red. Cut into 1 inch cubes.

Throw the apples into your crock-pot with 1 cup of water and the juice of one lemon or lime. Toss to coat in the citrus juice and place lid on pot. Cook on low for 4-5 hours until apples are tender.

After 4-5 hours pass, add in 2 TBS of brown sugar. I also added cinnamon to taste...about 1 tsp. Mash with a wooden spoon, place lid back on and cook 1 hour.

This made a little over 5 cups of applesauce. I kept sneaking bites while it was warm...so delicious! We have lots more to make and freeze for a special winter treat :)

And Robyn wants to go to the orchard one more time this Fall :)

  1. How incredibly fun, Kathleen...I'm going to make mine the same way...I'm going to water bath mine and I want to make apple pie filling as well...my friend brought 6 dozen quart jars and is bringing me another 6 dozen...I think I'll be busy for a while. Have you ever canned?
